About This Course

As one of the fastest-growing coding languages, Python is the perfect place to start—whether you aim to become a software developer or an AI and machine learning engineer. In this online version of our camp, begin your path by developing a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts of coding. You'll work your way up from variables and data types to object-oriented concepts to algorithms and beyond! Building on your knowledge, utilize popular libraries and tools like NumPy and Google’s Teachable Machine to establish a foundation in machine learning. Design and test a model that can play Rock, Paper, Scissors against humans. Next, hone your skills by exploring advancing OpenAI technologies like ChatGPT. You’ll create customized AI systems that perform personalized tasks, such as recommending a restaurant based on your favorite cuisine and city. With all this experience, you'll be prepared for wherever your computer science career takes you!

You'll learn to:

  • Learn the fundamentals of Python coding to build console-based programs
  • Utilize machine learning concepts with Teachable Machine to build a Rock, Paper, Scissors game

  • Gain coding and computational thinking skills

Course Format

This course is part of a weeklong virtual summer camp running Monday through Friday. Your child will learn online with a small group of other students, in sessions led by expert instructors. Each day includes two hours of live instruction and peer collaboration plus two hours of self-paced project development. Learn more below. 


Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in this course could look like. Keep in mind students will progress at varying paces, and this is meant to serve as an outline of key materials and the overall experience. 

Explore Python fundamentals through an introduction to variables, conditional statements, loops, and more! Students will code logic-based applications, such as a Mad Lib story, with the option to create a Guess the Number or Fortune Teller game.

Building on their knowledge, students will delve deeper into Python programming and explore the basics of machine learning and neural networks using Google’s Teachable Machine.

Utilizing their advanced coding and computational thinking skills, students will begin exploring advancing AI technologies with OpenAI, such as ChatGPT. Students will build a customized AI-based chatbot system.

Next, students will learn how to create personalized AI assistants to perform everyday tasks. Students will design a dataset and apply the concepts of thread messages and data retrieval with artificial intelligence.

To wrap up the week, students will learn how to use artificial intelligence to generate text and transcribe audio files. In addition, students will finish out strong with a solid understanding of Python programming, machine learning concepts, and new AI technologies.

To complete the experience, our Virtual Tech Camps incorporate all the magic of summer camp including games, challenges, and legendary iD traditions!

Yes, this course is designed for beginner to intermediate students. Our small class size ensures that each student receives individual attention and has the freedom to learn at their own pace.

To run this online course with iD Tech, students will need a Mac or Windows computer (no Chromebooks, unless otherwise specified), a webcam, and a stable internet connection with access to Zoom video conferencing. Additional info on course-specific installation requirements will be communicated after registration.

As courses frequently sell out, we recommend registering early to secure your child’s spot. You can make unlimited changes - with no fees - up to 14 days before the start of your session. If you need to cancel, you will receive a refund of the amount paid, less the payment plan fee (if applicable) and the deposit of $250 per week. No refunds are provided for cancellations made within 14 days of the start of your session.

Our Online Private Lessons offer 1-on-1 learning with our inspiring instructors, curriculum customized to your child’s needs, and a full range of STEM and other academic topics.
