Summer is in full swing, and 4th of July is right around the corner! The 4th is on a Thursday this year, and while a four-day weekend sounds magical, it also means extra energy, excitement, and need for activities. Luckily, we’ve got some tips for activities that’ll light up your holiday weekend.
1. Celebrate with a STEM activity
Teach your child about the importance of sun protection by conducting a sunscreen experiment. Apply different sunscreens to sections of a white paper plate. Expose the plate to the sun for a few hours. Then, rinse the plate with water to see which areas were affected and protected from the sun! Looking for even more STEM activities? We’ve got a whole lot more on our blog.
2. Spend the week with iD Tech
If you’re staying home for the holiday (or traveling near one of our 65 prestigious campuses!), we’d love to spend the week with your kids and teens! Our 4th of July camps are $200 off and filled with summer magic. With hands-on learning, campus exploration, and epic traditions like dress-up days, raffles, and gaming tournaments, every day is extraordinary.
3. Have fun with kitchen chemistry
Show your child how bread rises, how ice cream freezes, or how sugar caramelizes! Cooking and baking are all about science and life skills from creating chemical reactions to following instructions. Plus, with food coloring, treats and eats instantly become 4th of July themed!
4. Host a movie marathon
There are so many family-friendly movies that’ll get everyone in the spirit. Our favorites? The Music Man (G), The Sandlot (PG), Jaws (PG), and Independence Day (PG-13). Bonus points if you’ve got space to set up an outdoor projector and watch one of these classics under the stars!
5. Get outside for games
There are so many outdoor games that bring fun for the whole family. Get a little friendly competition going with cornhole, horseshoe toss, or kick the can. You can even organize a relay race or scavenger hunt with patriotic-themed clues!
