Model custom parts for your bot using computer-aided design, then print your creations into reality with a 3D printer. You’ll build and test your work like the Battlebots® pros on your way to the arena, using creativity and teamwork to construct a mechanical marvel that takes the lead.

Once you’ve perfected your bot’s capabilities, step up to the stage and show off its full potential in a BattleBots®-style robot showdown. Think you have what it takes to make it to the winner's circle? “Let the bot battle begin!"

You'll learn to:

  • Build a custom robot with VEX V5 hardware
  • Program behaviors and controls in C++
  • Explore mechanical engineering principles
  • Learn how 3D printers and slicing software work
  • Model and print custom robot parts

Course Format

This course is part of an intensive 2-week summer program running Monday through Friday (overnight at most locations with the option to stay the weekend within the two weeks). Your teen will learn in a lab on an inspiring university campus with a balanced daily schedule of assignment-driven workshops and outdoor/recreational activities. Courses are led by experienced instructors in a small-group setting. Learn more below.

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what each week in the course could look like! Please keep in mind that students will progress at varying paces; this is a general outline of key material and the overall student experience.

Students will kick off the course by discussing the basic protocols of BattleBots® camp and building a drivable base for their robot. Then, they’ll form teams and begin designing their robots using available materials. They’ll learn the basics of engineering and computer-aided design to create custom 3D-printed parts.

Once they’ve learned the basics, students will spend the second week learning more advanced topics in bot and part design. They’ll iterate on their designs while running a variety of battle modes to test their robots. At the end of the week, the final competition will test each student’s technical knowledge and ingenuity as they face off against their peers’ robots.

Portfolio-Boosting Diploma & Transcript

At the conclusion of your teen's course, they will receive an official iD Tech diploma and course transcript outlining the skills they learned over the session.
